NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A cold shooting touch stopped the Lipscomb Lady Bisons basketball team as they fell 70-27 to Liberty Saturday afternoon at Vanderbilt's Memorial Gym in the consolation game of the “Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament”.

In the first half the Lady Bisons hit 15.6 percent from the field (5-of-32). The shooting drought continued in the second half. Guard Morgan Faulkner hit Lipscomb's first field goal at 13:09, a 3-pointer. The Lady Bisons shot 12.1 percent from the field in the second half, hitting four of 33 shots. They hit 13.8 percent from the field for the game.

“We missed shots and that affected our play after we missed them,” Lipscomb coach Frank Bennett said. “At time we did some good things defensively, but at time we would let down defensively and I think that was because of our missed shots.

“We had a hard time scoring around the basket. They had a lot of size in there. We didn’t move the ball well enough to get into position.”

This was the first meeting between Liberty and Lipscomb in women's basketball.

The Lady Bisons are 0-7. Liberty evened its record at 3-3.

It was the fewest points scored by the Lady Bisons since they posted 34 at Kent State Nov. 18, 2005.

“We had a number of good looks,” Bennett said. “We just got psyched out a little bit.”

The Lady Bisons scored on their first possession of the game when center Sasha Robinson connected on a jump shot 21 seconds into the game. They would not score again until 12:09 when forward Hannah Phillips sank a 3-point shot.

Sparked by perfect 5-of-5 shooting from 3-point range and a strong inside game with 16 points in the lane Liberty built a 38-12 halftime lead.

Liberty held a 55-36 advantage on the boards. Robinson and Faulkner tied for the team lead for the Lady Bisons with five boards each.

Three players were in double figures in rebounds for Liberty with Tolu Omotola leading the way with 12 followed by Danika Dale and Avery Warley with 10 apiece.

Reagan Miller led Liberty with a game-high 18 points. LaKend Washington chipped in 14. Dale and Warley both posted double-doubles with 11 points each.

Center Jess Reece led the Lady Bisons with six points.

One positive for the Lady Bisons was their 13 turnovers, the lowest total of the season.

“We took care of the basketball pretty well,” Bennett said. “We were averaging 23 of 24.”

The Lady Bisons open the Atlantic Sun portion of the season Thursday, Dec. 1, when Mercer visits Allen Arena at 5 p.m.

“We haven’t really practiced in quite a while because of our schedule,” Bennett said. “We need to get a little more practice time and try to get back to some of the basics we need to work on.

“We will get back to defensive intensity and effort. We will tweak a few things during the week like boxing out on rebounds.”
