NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After a 14-day layoff for the Christmas break, the Lipscomb women’s basketball team returns to action on Monday afternoon taking on Atlantic Sun foe Jacksonville at Swisher Gymnasium in Jacksonville, Fla.
The Lady Bison (3-10, 1-1 A-Sun) hit the hardwood after going 3-3 in the month of December including a 1-1 mark in A-Sun play. Junior wing Hannah Phillips leads Lipscomb into the New Year averaging 12.2 points per game overall and 17 a night in league play. She also leads the team in rebounding hauling in 5.5 boards per contest.
Lipscomb heads to the Sunshine State as the second-best three-point shooting team in the conference posting a .344 average beyond the arch. That figure ranks only behind FGCU’s .362 percentage from long distance. Junior guard Morgan Faulkner leads the way for the Purple and Gold with a .377 mark that ranks sixth-best in the league.
The Lady Bison also rank second in the A-Sun in defensive rebounding hauling in 26.7 defensive boards just behind ETSU, who leads the league with a 27.2 average on the glass.
The opponent: Jacksonville (2-10, 0-1 A-Sun) is coming off a 68-67 win over South Carolina State last Thursday night to open the second half of the season. The Dolphins lead the all-time series 9-7 having won eight of the last nine against the Lady Bison.
Senior guard Crystal Bell leads the way for JU averaging 11.6 points per contest. While the Lady Bison are among the best in the A-Sun from long distance, the Dolphins rank near the top in three-point field goal defense holding their opponents to a .283 mark beyond the arch. Jacksonville also ranks second in the A-Sun in steals (125) and blocked shots (48).
