NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s basketball team is set to make the short trek to the Curb Event Center to take on rival Belmont in the 66th installment of the “Battle of the Boulevard” on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
The history of the series between the Lady Bison (3-12, 1-3 A-Sun) and the Bruins (3-12, 2-2 A-Sun) finds Belmont in the lead 38-27 all-time but the series is much closer in the NCAA Division I era where BU holds a slight 10-7 advantage. Lipscomb has had the advantage in recent years however, having gone 5-3 against the Bruins in the last eight meetings.
Lipscomb continues to have a one-two punch at the top of the stat sheet as junior wing Hannah Philips and senior guard Anna Bowers are scoring 12.5 and 12.0 points per game, respectively. Philips is also pacing the Lady Bison in rebounding averaging 5.3 boards per game, as well as assists (40) and steals (25).
The opponent: Belmont is led by senior center Haley Nelson, who averages 14 points per game for the Bruins and leads the team in rebounding as well with a 6.9 rebound per game average. The Bruins are coming off a 54-37 win at North Florida on Monday and a close 57-50 loss at Jacksonville on Wednesday.
Up next: The Lady Bison return home for the first time in nearly a month hosting Setson at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
