NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s basketball team continues Atlantic Sun conference road action on Saturday afternoon taking on ETSU at the Memorial Center in Johnson City at Noon.
The Lady Bison (3-16, 1-7 A-Sun) are looking to snap an 11-game losing streak to the Lady Bucs (4-14, 3-5 A-Sun) that dates back to the 2007 season. Lipscomb is coming off a close 73-67 loss at USC Upstate on Thursday night that saw senior guard Anna Bowers become just the fourth player in school history to reach the 1,000 point mark in the NCAA era.
Bowers scored 19 against the Spartans to lead the team and pull her into a tie with junior wing Hannah Phillips for the team lead with both players averaging 12.5 points per game overall and 14.1 points per game in A-Sun play. Phillips continues to lead the squad in rebounding averaging 5.3 boards per contest.
The opponent: After opening 2012 with three-straight A-Sun wins, ETSU has lost their last three contests including a Thursday night home loss that snapped an eight-game home winning streak.
The Lady Bucs feature a balanced attack with no single scorer averaging double figures. Destiny Mitchell leads the way with a 9.8 point per game average, followed by Natalie Pickwell’s 9.5 scoring average and Tarita Gordon’s 8.8 points per contest. Mitchell leads the way on the boards averaging 7.1 rebounds a night as ETSU leads the A-Sun in rebounding averaging 43.2 rebounds per game.
