DELAND, Fla. – Despite a 21-point performance from senior Anna Bowers, the Lipscomb women’s basketball team came up short 74-59 to Atlantic Sun Conference foe Stetson at the Edmunds Center in Deland.
The Hatters (21-6, 12-3 A-Sun) kept a firm hold on second place in the A-Sun standings by forcing 20 Lady Bison (5-20, 3-11 A-Sun) turnovers on the afternoon.
Along with Bowers scoring in double figures for the 13th straight contest, Lipscomb got at 14-point effort from junior guard Morgan Faulkner. Stetson’s Shanasa Sanders matched Bowers with 21 points for Stetson, while Victoria McGowan, the top scorer in the A-Sun, added 18 for the hatters.
Lipscomb made a second-half run cutting the Hatters lead to just six at 42-36 when Bowers hit a three with 13:15 to play but Stetson went on an 11-0 run to push the lead back to 17 and seal the win.
The Hatters won the shooting battle from the floor 43.3 percent to 35.7 percent but the Lady Bison were better from deep hitting 39.1 percent compared to Stetson’s 38.5 percent. Stetson also won the battle of the boards 40-37.
Lipscomb senior post Brittany Duerk hauled in eight rebounds to lead the Lady Bison tying McGowan for the game high cleaning up the glass.
The Lady Bison return home on Thursday night hosting A-Sun foe ETSU for “Think Pink” night at Allen Arena at 6:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to join the team in wearing pink in support of breast cancer awareness. The first 500 Lipscomb students will receive a free t-shirt following the pregame tailgate outside Allen Arena that features free burgers and hot dogs.
