NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Playing the third SEC opponent of the year, and second nationally ranked squad, the Lipscomb women’s basketball team travels to Athens, Ga. for a 1 p.m. contest at Georgia.
Georgia, ranked No. 6 in the AP Poll, is the highest-ranked squad the Lady Bisons will have faced since moving to NCAA Div. 1. The previous high was playing at No. 7 North Carolina on Dec. 28, 2005.
The Lady Bisons are looking for two wins in a row after beating Jacksonville State 67-54, in part by draining 13 3-point baskets.
Freshman Alex Banks, the College Sports Madness Player of the Week, led all scorers with 18 points while fellow classmate Presley Stastny dumped in 17 points as the two combined for eight treys. Senior Hannah Phillips scored 11 points, the first time this season the Lady Bisons placed three in double-digits.
Continuing a season-long trend of sharing the ball, 15 of the 20 made field goals came as the result of an assists, led by freshman Mallory Charpentier who dished out five assists.
Georgia, 7-0 overall, are paced by Jasmine Hassell at 12.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. The second team All-SEC pick a year ago is also joined in double-digit scoring by Jasmine James, who averages 11 points per game.
