NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In a matchup that can be seen on ESPN3, the Lipscomb women’s basketball team hosts Stetson University in Atlantic Sun Conference action on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Allen Arena.
The Lady Bisons fell to A-Sun leader Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday, an 89-38 defeat. Freshman Kelli Smith led the Lady Bisons with 11 points while senior Hannah Phillips snagged a career-high 13 rebounds.
Looking to find consistency, the Lady Bisons still have a chance to earn a bid into the A-Sun Tournament, but with five games remaining time is running short.
“We have to focus on the process,” Lipscomb head coach Greg Brown said. “We have to get better at what we are doing and move on from there.
“You shouldn’t be motivated by winning or losing. You should be motivated to get better and be the best player you can be. “
Phillips leads the Purple and Gold with a 13.1 point-per-game average and upped her rebounding average to 5.6 boards per game. Alex Banks averages 11.1 points per game in conference play, a mark that ranks fourth for all freshmen this season.
Stetson, 18-7 overall and 11-3 in A-Sun action, are led by A- Sun Preseason Player of the Year Victoria McGowan, who averages 16.8 points and snags 6.5 rebounds per game. Shanasa Sanders also scores in double-figures with a 13.7 point-per-game average and leads the squad with 6.6 rebounds.
The Hatters fell 73-68 to Northern Kentucky on Saturday. McGowan scored a game-high 23 points in the loss, the first loss in three games for Stetson.
Previously this season, the Lady Bisons fell 92-51 to Stetson in DeLand, Fla. Sasha Sims scored a game-high 22 points for the Hatters while Smith scored 11 points to lead the Lady Bisons.
