NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s basketball team looks to close the regular season on a high-note Saturday when USC Upstate visits Allen Arena for a 1 p.m. Atlantic Sun matchup.
The Lady Bisons also want to send the seniors out with a win.
O’Neisha Smith and Jess Reece will be taking part in their final game in front of the home crowd.
Lipscomb enters the contest at 6-22 overall, 3-14 in league play.
The Lady Bisons are fresh off a 76-74 victory over ETSU.
Sara Bliss drained a go-ahead 3-pointer with 15 seconds to play to help Lipscomb to its first win over the Bucs in 15 tries. The win also clinched the No. 8 seed for the Lady Bisons in the A-Sun Championship next week.
Lipscomb got double-digit scoring from four players, led by Ashley Southern. With her 27-point performance, Southern is now the second-leading scorer in the A-Sun at 16.1 per game.
Danay Fothergill, who scored 19, leads the league, averaging 18.1 per contest.
Chandler Cooper and Bliss added 16 and 14, respectively.
Saturday’s contest with USC Upstate (15-13, 10-7) will be the 14th meeting in Lipscomb’s NCAA era. The Spartans hold a 10-3 advantage in the all-time series, including a 96-69 victory in Spartanburg on Jan. 4.
The Spartans are led offensively by Brittany Clency’s 11.6 points per game. Brittany Starling adds 10.4 points and a team-leading 7.8 rebounds per contest.
Southern enters the matchup just one double-double shy of tying the A-Sun’s single season record of 21.
Following Saturday’s game, the Lady Bisons will be traveling to face the winner of FGCU and Stetson on Saturday, in the first round of the A-Sun Championship on Tuesday.
