Lady Bisons Control Boards Against Troy

Katie Beth Pate grabbed 13 rebounds and Kaleigh Gossman and Penny Jones combined for 23 points in a 57-52 loss to Troy Monday night at Allen Arena.

The Lady Bisons got off to a slow start with Troy jumping out to a 19-9 lead at 11:40. The Lady Bisons started pecking away at the lead, pulling within one at 26-25 on a lay-up by Keirstin Head at 3:52. At 1:30 the Lady Bisons tied the game at 29-29 on a lay-up by Penny Jones.

Troy regained the lead with 1:19 left on a field goal by Laura Lee Holman for a 31-29 advantage. Neither team would score the rest of the way in the first half.

The Lady Bisons took control of the game early in the second half, holding the lead until the 13-minute mark when Troy's Alecia Jones hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 39-39.

Holman hit a 3-pointer at 12:16 to give Troy a lead.

The Lady Bisons stayed close. They tied the game at 47-47 at 9:42 on a 3-point shot by Dana Carrigan.

Audrey Muse answered with a lay-up for Troy at 49-47 at 8:56.

Both teams struggled to score the rest of the way with Troy scoring eight points, and the Lady Bisons scoring five.

Kaleigh Gossman led the Lady Bisons with 12 points, the first time she has been the leader this season. Penny Jones added 11.

The Lady Bisons held a 60-42 advantage on the boards. Jones, Courtney Boynton and Lindsay Daly each had seven rebounds for the Lady Bisons.

Holman scored a game-high 16 points for Troy. Muse added 14 points, and recorded a double-double with a game-high 16 rebounds. Jones finished with 10.

Troy is 8-11 overall, 7-5 in the conference. The Lady Bisons are 10-9, 7-5 in the A-Sun.
