Katie Rollins, from Charlotte, N.C., has signed to play basketball for the Lipscomb University Lady Bisons.
Rollins, a 6-foot-2 power forward, has played on four Class 3-A private school state championship teams over the past five seasons at Charlotte Christian School. She will be the eighth player from Charlotte Christian to play college basketball with one player at a Big Ten school and three at Atlantic Coast Conference schools.
As a junior she averaged 10.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. She also played for Team North Carolina which finished fourth in the AAU Junior Olympics.
"Katie has played with, and against, outstanding players at Charlotte Christian and on Team North Carolina in AAU," said Lipscomb coach Frank Bennett. "Katie can score with either hand around the basket, and has expanded her game to be a 3-point shooter.
"This experience will help her adapt to the college game. She has played on talented and balanced teams in the past, but she will have to step up and carry more of the load for her high school team this season."
Rollins was invited to attend the Adidas All-American Camp last summer. She also is rated as the 58th best power forward in the class of 2005 by Mike White of the All-Star Girls Report.
"Katie gives us good size and mobility," Bennett said. "She is a very hard worker. She is a great person, and will be a natural fit for our program."
Rollins plans to major in Bible, with plans to work in youth ministry or the mission field.
