Lady Bisons End Season with Loss to FAU

In their final game of the season too many Lady Bisons turnovers contributed to an 80-61 loss to Florida Atlantic on Thursday, March 2. The Lady Bisons committed 26 turnovers while the Lady Owls committed just 14.

The Lady Bisons hung with the Lady Owls throughout the entire first half. Lipscomb got on the board in the first minute of the game after Miriam McAlister made both of her free throws with 19:54 on the clock. The teams exchanged leads four times over the next five minutes.

With 6:45 remaining in the half, the Lady Owls began to try and pull away, but the Lady Bisons continued to keep it close. With 1:58 remaining in the half the Lady Owls pulled ahead by 10, their biggest lead of the half.

However, the Lady Bisons rallied, going on a 6-0 run. At the end of the half the Lady Bisons trailed the Lady Owls 41-37. McAlister and Jones had seven first half points each, to lead the team. Jillian Partin led the team in the first half with six rebounds.

"FAU has a very good team," head coach Frank Bennett said. "I thought we had a good first half."

The Lady Owls came out strong in the second half, raising their lead to 56-43 with 11:42 remaining. The Lady Bisons pulled to within eight at 60-52 with 7:55 on the clock, but that was as close as they would get.

McAlister scored a team high 13 points, with Katie Beth Pate next on the list with 13. Kaleigh Gossman led the team in rebounding with eight. As a team, the Lady Bisons had their best free throw percentage of the year, with 82.4%.

The loss officially put an end to any hope the Lady Bisons had of making the A-Sun tournament.

"It wasn't the kind of year we wanted," Bennett said. "We had so many injuries. We will be a good team next year, even though we will miss our seniors. They were good people and meant a lot to our program."
