The Lipscomb Lady Bisons basketball team has been honored nationally by the NCAA for achievements in the classroom.
The top 10 percent of teams in each sport in NCAA Division I based on the Academic Progress Rate were honored. All teams that posted perfect 1000 APRs are included.
A total of 1,048 teams out of 6,112 Division I sports were honored in all sports according to the NCAA. The list includes 595 women's teams in all sports.
"It's an honor for our program," said Lipscomb women's basketball coach Frank Bennett. "It speaks well of the hard work of our student-athletes to achieve this honor."
According to a report in the March 13 issue of "The NCAA News", the top APR performers will be part of a public recognition effort every year.
"As universities and athletics departments compete to be ranked in the top 25 in football, basketball and other sports, so, too, will they want their teams to be on the top APR list every year," said Walter Harrison, president of the University of Hartford and chair of the Division I Committee on Academic Performance.
