Lady Bisons sign Iowa prep star

Lipscomb University women's basketball coach Frank Bennett has announced the signing of point guard Toia McGowan from Davenport, Iowa.

"We are excited to have Toia join our program," said Bennett. "She is a quality individual and a quality student. She will bring quickness and athleticism to our team. She's a very good shooter, fast with the ball and can elevate on penetration to score."

As a senior at Davenport West High School, McGowan averaged 14.7 points, 2.7 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game. Her field goal percentage was 38.7 and her free throw percentage was 66.7.

McGowan, 5-foot-5, also won a number of awards as a senior. She was named third-team 4-A All-State by the Iowa Coaches Association.

She was also named first team All-Mississippi Athletic Conference, first team All-Southeast Iowa District and first team All-Metro which is chosen from Iowa/Illinois Quad Cities, Davenport, Bettendorf and Rock Island.

McGowan also was named to play in the 15th annual Gatorade All-Star Games sponsored by the Iowa Girls' Coaches Association.
