The Lady Bisons made a strong second half push, but came up short in a 54-51 loss to Atlantic Sun foe North Florida in Jacksonville Thursday night.
In the first half the Lady Bisons were down 18-9 with 10:15 left to play. From 8:04 to 5:10 neither team scored a point. The Lady Bisons broke the shooting drought when forward Rachel Davis connected on a jump shot in the lane to pull within five at 22-17.
With 3:13 left in the first half the Lady Bisons trailed 28-18. They trailed 30-23 at intermission.
In the second half the Lady Bisons pulled within three at 30-27 when Jilian Partin connected on a jump shot at 18:39.
With 12:37 remaining in the game Davis fired up a 3-pointer to cut the North Florida lead to two at 36-34.
With 9:25 left Penny Jones scored on a lay-up to tie the game at 40-40.
Point guard Catie Woods went to the line with 48 seconds left and hit the first of two free throw attempts to tie the game at 51-51.
North Florida closed out the game with three unanswered points.
Woods shot a game-high 15 points. Dana Carrigan scored 13. Davis chipped in 10.
Jones grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Lady Bisons hit 17-of-48 shots from the field for 35.4 percent. They were 8-of-20 from 3-point range for 40 percent. They hit nine-of-14 free throw attempts, 64.3 percent.
North Florida placed four players in double figures. Willonda Windham scored 12. Jennifer Gulager and Denisia Andrews each tossed in 11. Jennifer Bowen added 10 points.
Gulager led North Florida with eight rebounds.
North Florida shot 39. 7 percent from the field, hitting 25-of-62 tries, including three-of-12 from beyond the arc. They shot only two free throws, hitting one.
The Lady Bisons slipped to 6-11 in the conference, 8-19 overall. North Florida is 7-10 in the A-Sun, 8-20 overall.
Saturday the Lady Bisons close out the regular season at Jacksonville.
