The Lipscomb Lady Bisons were picked to finish sixth in the Atlantic Sun Conference this season in a poll of the conference women's basketball coaches.

In the preseason poll selected by the media the Lady Bisons were picked to finish seventh.

Lady Bisons coach Frank Bennett doesn't get too excited about preseason polls, but he is interested in that No. 6 spot. It brings back fond memories of the 2003-2004 season.

"That was where were picked to finish the year we won the conference tournament and went to the NCAA Tournament," Bennett said.

The Lady Bisons will officially begin practice Sunday.

Returning are seven players who played 10 minutes a game or more last season including senior point guard Catie Woods and senior guard Dana Carrigan.

Also returning are center Kaleigh Gossman, center Miriam McAlister and wing Tiffany Arnold, three players who were sidelined for all or most of last season.

There are four new freshmen members of the team: guard Jenna Bartsokas, guard Miaca Bowman, center Cree Nix and wing Valerie Bronson.

"This freshman class is our most athletic class in terms of speed and jumping," Bennett said. "They are going to give us a boost."
