Poor rebounding performance downs Lady Bisons
JACKSONVILLE – The North Florida Ospreys dominated the boards outrebounding Lipscomb by 28 as the Lady Bisons fell 75-64 Saturday afternoon in UNF Arena.

North Florida (5-12, 2-6 A-Sun) grabbed the first eight rebounds of the game and hit seven of their first eight attempts from the field to take a 17-4 lead 8:40 in the contest.

Rachelle Rasley hit a jumper with 3:23 in the first half to give North Florida a 35-17 lead, their largest of the half.

Lipscomb (4-14, 2-6 A-Sun) rallied behind two 3-pointers by Jenna Bartsokas cut the game into single digits, 37-28, at the half.

The Lady Bisons brought the deficit to seven points three times in the second period when Hannah Philips hit a three at the 14:26 mark and when Chelsea Burroughs drained 3-pointers with 13:34 and 12:38 left.

Following Burroughs’ last three North Florida went on a 12-0 run to take a 19-point lead, their largest margin, with 8:21 remaining.

Lipscomb went on a 7-0 run over 1:38 to make it a 64-52 game with 5:13 left.

Sophomore guard Anna Bowers hit a 3-pointer with 24 seconds left to bring the Lady Bisons within nine, 73-64.

Bowers led five Lady Bisons scoring in double digits with 13 points.  Bartsokas tallied 12 points.  Hannah Phillips and Chelsea Burroughs had 11 points each while Chelsea McMeans scored 10.

North Florida had 51 rebounds to Lipscomb’s 23.  McMeans paced the Lady Bisons with six boards.   Arlande Cherizol grabbed 17 including nine offensive boards.

North Florida had 22 second chance points on 18 offensive rebounds.   Lipscomb had four second chance points on five offensive rebounds.

Lipscomb shot 19-of-51 from the floor for 37.3 percent.  North Florida was 29-of-60 for 48.3 percent.

The Lady Bisons had 16 assists on 19 baskets.  After averaging 21 turnovers over the past four games, Lipscomb turned the ball over 13 times.

It was the 14th consecutive road loss for Lipscomb.

Lipscomb returns to Allen Arena Thursday evening to face ETSU at 5:15 p.m.
