Wednesday, January 27, 2010The Lipscomb Lady Bisons have won four of their last five games against Belmont.
That kind of confidence could play dividends tonight when the Lady Bisons go for the sweep against Belmont at 7 at the Curb Event Center in the second “Battle of the Boulevard” for the women’s teams. The Lady Bisons won the first game 74-68 in overtime at Allen Arena Jan. 11.
The Lady Bisons are 4-16, 2-8 in the conference. Belmont is 9-9, 4-6 in the A-Sun. This is the start of the second half of the A-Sun round-robin for both teams.
“You never know what is going to happen in a game with Belmont,” Lipscomb coach Frank Bennett said. “The games with them are always very close.”
The Lady Bisons have not won a road game this season. But they have beaten the Lady Bruins on their home court the last two years.
“In a game against a rival team you never know how it is going to start,” Bennett said. “It would give us a little confidence if we could start out quickly.”
The Lady Bisons are led by junior guard Jenna Bartsokas who is averaging 12.5 points per game. She scored a career-high 28 points in the Jan. 11 win. Center Brittany Duerk leads in rebounds with six per game.
Bennett’s team will try to implement a faster tempo game on offense, a strategy that has been paying dividends in the past few games in terms of points scored.
“The other team’s defense is going to dictate what we are able to do,” Bennett said. “But playing an up tempo game is better for us.”
Belmont is led in scoring by guard Amber Rockwell with 13.3 points and center Haley Nelson with 13.1. Nelson also leads the team in rebounds with 10.2.
Said Bennett, “They have made some adjustments since the last time we played them.”
