Lady Bisons eliminated from postseason play

DELAND, FLA. – Junior guard Jenna Bartsokas produced almost half of Lipscomb’s points scoring 21 points as the Lady Bisons fell 56-45 to the Stetson Hatters Saturday afternoon in the Edmunds Center.

Stetson’s win gives the Hatters (6-22, 6-13 A-Sun) the eighth and final berth in the Atlantic Sun Tournament and eliminates the Lady Bisons from postseason contention. Lipscomb (4-24, 2-16 A-Sun) will close its season out in Allen Arena next week hosting Kennesaw State Thursday at 5:15 and Mercer Saturday at 1 p.m.

The rims frustrated both squads as Lipscomb shot 32.7 percent and Stetson shot 29.2 percent. Bartsokas made nine of her 17 attempts. The remainder of the Lady Bisons combined to shoot 9-of-38.

Stetson outrebounded the Lady Bisons 53-38. Stetson grabbed 19 rebounds and converted 17 second chance points. Lipscomb did not post any points on second chances.

Sophomore Leah McAlister led Lipscomb with nine rebounds while Janelle Mills and Natasha Graboski brought down 11 and 10 boards, respectively, for Stetson.

Stetson scored 22 points off Lipscomb’s 19 turnovers. Stetson committed 12 turnovers.

Stetson opened the game scoring the first seven points. After Lipscomb coach Frank Bennett called timeout, the Lady Bisons went on a 9-0 run to take the two point lead four minutes into the contest.

Stetson used a 12-2 run to take a 26-15 lead with 3:05 left in the first half. Lipscomb did not make a field goal from 11:52 until Bartsokas hit a three at the 2:56 mark.

Stetson led 28-20 at the half.

With threes by Bartsokas and sophomore Miaca Bowman, Lipscomb cut the deficit to two, 32-30, with 15:18 left.

Stetson responded with a 13-2 run to build their lead to 45-32 with 5:31 to play.

Tierra Brown paced Stetson with 12 points off the bench while Graboski added 11 points.
