Senior guard Jenna Bartsokas has been one of the leaders for the Lady Bisons since her freshman year at Lipscomb.

Saturday night Bartsokas scored 17 points in an 84-62 win over Jacksonville State at Allen Arena. With that performance she broke the 1,000-point barrier. She has 1,010. She is the first Lady Bisons player to score 1,000 points in her career since Katie Beth Allen, a Lipscomb assistant, did it from the 2003-2004 season through 2006-2007. Allen finished with 1,078 points.

“Jenna has been a top scorer since her freshmen year, but has really raised her level of play this year, “ Lady Bisons coach Frank Bennett said. “She really works hard on her game on her own. Hopefully, she will move a long way past the 1,000 points mark this year in her role as a scorer on the team.”

The Lady Bisons, 1-2, are hopeful that the Jacksonville State performance carries over into Monday night’s game with Alabama A&M, 1-1, at Allen Arena at 7.

Junior guard Anna Bowers led the Lady Bisons with 23 points, a career-high. Sophomore forward Chelsea McMeans added 11.

Junior center Brittany Duerk led the team with a game-high nine rebounds.

Bowers leads the Lady Bisons in scoring with 16.7 points per game. Bartsokas is averaging 15.3. Duerk is the leading rebounder with 6.7 per game.

“The Jacksonville state game was one of our best in terms of consistent intensity, focus and execution in the past two or three years,” Bennett said. “Hopefully we can build on that and put some winning efforts together.”

Alabama A&M beat Stillman 66-54 Thursday night. Whiquitta Tobar is the top scorer for Alabama A&M with 21 points per game. Brittney Strickland averages 16 points and Jasmine Sanders is averaging 11 points per game.

The game will be the last for the Lady Bisons before taking three days off for Thanksgiving. They will return to the court Saturday at 6:30 when Tennessee State visits Allen Arena.
