Women's basketball set for tilt at Jacksonville State

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Heading into the third game of a five-game road trip, the Lipscomb women’s basketball team is set to take on Jacksonville State at Pete Matthews Coliseum for the first time in school history on Monday night in Jacksonville, Ala.

The Lady Bisons enter the 7 p.m. contest looking for their first win of the season after a 0-4 start to the season following Saturday night’s 72-54 loss at Alabama A&M.  Both Anna Bowers and Hannah Phillips scored in double figures for Lipscomb against the Lady Bulldogs but the Lady Bisons could not overcome 19 turnovers in the loss.

Through the first four games, preseason All-Atlantic Sun conference selection Bowers leads the Lady Bisons scoring at a 11.5 points-per-game clip.  Phillips ranks just behind averaging nine points a night and leads the team in rebounding hauling in 6.5 boards per outing.

Set to take on their third Ohio Valley Conference opponent of the season, the Lady Bisons are pacing the A-Sun in three-point shooting making 35.5 percent of attempts beyond the arch.  Lipscomb ranks third in three-pointers made in the league averaging 5.5 per tilt.

The opponent:  Coming off an 81-67 loss at Kennesaw State on Saturday, Jacksonville State is wrapping up five games in 11 days with Monday night’s contest against the Lady Bisons.   1-3 on the young season, JSU is led by junior forward Danielle Vaughn, who is averaging 14.5 points-per-contest while hauling in 7.3 rebounds a night.  Freshman forward Brianna Morrow leads the club in rebounding with an 8.3 average while adding 8.7 points a night.

Lipscomb holds an all-time 1-0 advantage against JSU having taken an 84-62 win over the Gamecocks at Allen Arena last season in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.   Bowers torched JSU for 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field as Lipscomb shot 50.9 percent from the field.
