NASHVILLE , Tenn. – Continuing a busy stretch of the schedule including four games in six days, the Lipscomb women’s basketball team hits the hardwood at Tennessee Tech at 7 p.m. for a non-conference contest at the Eblen center in Cookeville.
The Lady Bisons (1-8, 1-1 A-Sun) are looking to bounce back from Saturday afternoon’s 74-55 loss to Atlantic Sun Conference foe Kennesaw State at Allen Arena. Lipscomb got 16 points from junior wing Hannah Phillips but it would not be enough as the Owls shot 44 percent beyond the arch and made 11 three pointers.
Phillips strong play of late has brought her into a tie for the scoring lead with senior guard Anna Bowers as both veterans are averaging 11.1 points per contest through the first nine games of the campaign. Phillips has the sole lead in rebounds for the Lady Bisons averaging 5.7 boards each night.
The Lady Bisons are looking for their first win over the Golden Eagles having gone 0-3 in three previous attempts over the last three seasons.
The opponent: Tennessee Tech (2-5, 0-0 OVC) returns home after a 61-35 loss at Alabama A&M last Tuesday night. Tacarra Hayes leads the Golden Eagles in scoring putting up 14.3 points a night for a team that is averaging 59 points per outing. Hayes also leads the squad in rebounding with a 5.1 average on the boards.
Much like the Lady Bisons, the Golden Eagles have been turnover prone so far this season averaging 20.4 giveaways every night. Lipscomb is turning the ball over 21.8 times a night at this point.
Up next: The Lady Bisons make a mid-week trip to face No. 13 North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. for the second time in school history.
