JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Despite a career high, 22-point performance from junior wing Hannah Phillips, the Lipscomb women’s basketball team dropped an 89-52 Atlantic Sun Conference contest to ETSU on Saturday afternoon at the MSHA Athletic Center in Johnson City.
Not scoring in the first five minutes of the contest, the Lady Bison (3-17, 1-8 A-Sun) got out to a slow start out of the gate and fell behind 17-2 to the Buccaneers (5-14, 4-5 A-Sun).
Entering the game as the second-best 3-point shooting team in the A-Sun, Lipscomb was unable to find a groove in the opening frame hitting only 1-of-14 from beyond the arch.
Having scored in double figures in 12 of her last 13 contests, Phillips was stellar from the floor hitting 7-of-10 and just as effective from the charity stripe where the veteran made 7-of-8 free throws. Phillips was joined in double figures by senior guard Anna Bowers, who scored 11 points against the Lady Bucs.
The Lady Bucs placed four players in double figures led by Destiny Mitchell’s 21 points. She was joined in double digits by Natalie Pickwell with 17, Brianna Bogard with 14 and Gwen Washington with 10.
Aside from Phillips’ sharpshooting, Lipscomb was 9-of-50 from the field while ETSU shot 46 percent on the afternoon. The Lady Bucs controlled the boards as well finishing the day with a 51-39 rebounding advantage. ETSU also forced Lipscomb into 29 turnovers resulting in 33 points for the Lady Bucs.
Lipscomb returns home on Thursday night hosting Jacksonville at 6:30 p.m. at Allen Arena.
