NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Having just tipped off against the juggernaut Florida Gulf Coast Eagles on Thursday night, the task does not get much easier for the Lipscomb women’s basketball team on Saturday as the Lady Bison face Stetson at Noon in an Atlantic Sun Conference contest at the Edmunds Center in DeLand, Fla.
The Hatters currently rank second in the league with an 11-3 mark against A-Sun opponents and a 20-6 mark overall. With only five conference contests remaining for Lipscomb (5-19, 3-10 A-Sun) on the slate, the Lady Bison, who are currently ninth, will have to make up some ground to make it to postseason play at the General Shale Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament in Macon, Gal.
Lipscomb continues to be led by senior guard Anna Bowers, who has scored in double figures in each of the past 12 contests for the Purple and Gold. Bowers is pacing Lipscomb with a 12.7 points per game average overall and a 13.8 point per night average against A-Sun foes.
Junior wing Hannah Phillips leads the Lady Bison in rebounding (5.1 rpg), assists (61) and steals (39).
The opponent: The Hatters are winners of five of their last six contests and are 11-1 at home with the lone loss coming at the hands of FGCU.
Tops in the A-Sun, Victoria McGowan leads the Hatters and the conference averaging 16.6 points a night. Shanasa Sanders ranks second on the Stetson club with a 13.2 scoring average.
Up next: The Lady Bison return home on Thursday night for “Think Pink” night at Allen Arena. Events are scheduled throughout the day to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research. Fans are encouraged to join the Lady Bison by wearing pink to the game.
