Lady Bison basketball searching for first win

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Playing consecutive home games for the first time all season, the Lipscomb women’s basketball team hopes the home cookin’ serves up their first win of the year. The Lady Bisons welcome Jacksonville State for a matinee on Sunday in Allen Arena. Tip off is slated for 2 p.m.

The overall series is tied at 1-1 as the two squads have met each of the last two seasons. Last year, the Gamecocks took an 81-72 victory in Jacksonville, Ala. In 2010, the Lady Bisons prevailed 84-62 in Nashville.

Lipscomb is led by senior Hannah Phillips with 13 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. Freshman Presley Stastny is second on the team with 8.8 points per game.

The Lady Bisons fell 70-54 to rival Belmont last Saturday.  Lipscomb utilized a starting line-up of four freshmen in the contest.

The Bruins shot 50 percent from the field while holding LU to 34 percent. Freshman Mallory Charpentier scored a career-high 13 points while fellow freshman Kelli Smith snagged eight rebounds.

The Gamecocks are led by Nashville native Briana Morrow who averages a double-double at 10 points and 10.3 rebounds a night. JSU has a balanced scoring attack with five different players averaging 5.4 points per game or more.

Previously on the season, the Gamecocks (0-7) have played three Atlantic Sun Conference foes in Mercer (L 63-51), Jacksonville (L 72-69) and Kennesaw State (L 51-50).

Coming off a quick turnaround, Jacksonville State played at home on Friday night falling to Reinhardt 65-60. Morrow and Dashauna Truss each scored 14 points while Destany Mclin grabbed eight rebounds.
