Lady Bisons open 2013 at Jacksonville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Ringing in a new year, the Lipscomb women’s basketball team looks for its first win this season in the Atlantic Sun Conference Wednesday at Jacksonville University. Tipoff is slated for 4 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Arena.
Lipscomb (1-10, 0-1 ASUN) fell 77-64 on Monday to North Florida despite career-high efforts from freshman Alex Banks and Kelli Smith. Banks poured in 24 points on 10-for-16 shooting from the field. Smith dumped in 14 points including four treys.
As she has for the entire season, senior Hannah Phillips leads the Lady Bisons with 12.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Her 27 3-point field goals made ranks her first in the conference with an average of 2.5 per game. Freshman Presley Stastny ranks third in the league with 22 made treys.
The Dolphins enter 5-7 on the year and 1-0 in A-Sun play after defeating Northern Kentucky 65-60 on Monday. JU is led by Jade Cargill who averages 11.8 points per game. She is followed closely by Tracie Sneed at 11.7 points per game. Cargill ranks second in league play with 8.8 rebounds per contest.
Lipscomb is 8-10 all-time against Jacksonville. The Lady Bisons were victorious in the first five meetings from 2004 to 2006. The two squads have split the last four meetings, with the home team earning the victory each game.
