Conference home opener brings ETSU to Allen Arena

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s basketball team returns to Allen Arena for the first time in the New Year with its Atlantic Sun Conference home opener hosting ETSU on Saturday. Tipoff is slated for 4 p.m.

The Lady Bisons (1-11, 0-2 ASUN) opened the conference season falling 77-64 at North Florida and 58-45 at Jacksonville. After averaging just 3.8 points per game before conference play, freshman Kelli Smith has reeled of two-straight games of 14 points each in the first two A-Sun contests. After being reinserted into a starting role, Smith has blossomed to shoot 56.1 percent from 3-point range.

Fellow freshman Alex Banks also averages 14 points per game in A-Sun play after pouring in a career-high 24 points at North Florida.

Senior Hannah Phillips continues to lead the Lady Bisons in scoring for the season as she averages 12.2 points per game. She also hauls in team-best 6.2 rebounds per game.

ETSU enters with a 2-6 record overall, 0-1 in the A-Sun. The Lady Bucs fell 90-79 at USC Upstate in their conference opener. Shawn Randall scored a team-high 16 points while Cara Bowling and Maria Bond scored 15 points each after coming off the bench.

The Lady Bucs average 60.8 points per contest, led by Destiny Mitchell with 13.1 points per game as the only Lady Buc who averages double-digits. Mitchell was awarded A-Sun Player of the Week honors on Dec. 4 for averaging a double-double of 14.5 points and 11 rebounds in victories over Memphis and Morehead State.
