A-Sun’s top WBB team visits Lady Bisons Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s basketball team welcomes the top team in the Atlantic Sun Conference, Florida Gulf Coast, on Saturday for a 4 p.m. contest in Allen Arena.

The Lady Bisons, 2-21 and 1-11 in the A-Sun, fell 61-39 on Monday to former A-Sun foe Belmont. Freshman Presley Stastny led the Purple and Gold with 14 points.

Over her last five conference games, senior Hannah Phillips has averaged 21.4 points per game, raising her season average to 13.3 points per game. Freshman Alex Banks has a 10.9 point-per-game average in the A-Sun, which is second for all freshmen.

Phillips will be honored during the men’s game, receiving a commemorative basketball for scoring 1,000 career points.

Florida Gulf Coast, 20-5 and 13-0 in the A-Sun, is in control of the conference led by Sarah Hansen with 16.9 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Brittany Kennedy also scores in double-digits with 10.5 points per game. In conference play, where the Eagles outscore opponents by 24.2 points, Betsy Adams also scores in double-figures with 10.5 points per game.

With a potent offense that averages 69.2 points per game, FGCU relies heavily on the long-range basket tallying 9.2 made treys per game, a figure that ranks them second in the country.

Saturday’s contest can be seen on ESPN3 with Justin Seamon and Jared Revlett on the call.
