Lady Bisons look to carry momentum at Mercer

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Snapping an 11-game losing streak on Saturday, the Lipscomb women’s basketball team looks to carry the momentum into Macon, Ga. against the Mercer Bears Monday. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. and can be seen for free on ASun.TV.

The Lady Bisons used a balanced effort to defeat Kennesaw State 55-53 on Saturday. They not only snapped the losing streak but kept alive the chance to qualify for the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament. The Lady Bisons are one game out of the final spot, needing a victory in the final three games to keep the chance alive.

Lipscomb placed three in double-figures, led by freshman Alex Banks with 12 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Kelli Smith added 11 points and sophomore Sasha Robinson scored a season-high 10 points.

Senior Hannah Phillips continues to lead the Purple and Gold with a 13 point-per-game average. In conference play, Banks averages 11.3 points and a team-high 5.4 rebounds.

Mercer, the second-ranked team in the A-Sun, fell 69-60 on Saturday to Northern Kentucky. The loss was the Bears third in the A-Sun with a 12-3 record, 18-8 overall. Precious Bridges leads the Bears with a league-high 17.5 points while Kendra Grant averages 13.1 points per game. Most of Bridges’ damage comes from inside the arc as the 5-foot-6 guard has just eight made 3-point baskets on the season.

Following Monday’s contest, the Lady Bisons return to Allen Arena to close out the regular season against Jacksonville and North Florida on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
