Women's basketball making assists off the court

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s basketball team took a break from preseason practice to lend a hand at Lipscomb Academy’s “Nothing But Fun Day” this past weekend.

“Nothing But Fun Day” is an after-school event set aside for Lipscomb Academy students to enjoy a day of fun-filled activities and entertainment.

Several Lady Bisons volunteered in the form of cleaning up before and after the event as well as spending time with the children playing games.

“Helping at this event was a very cool opportunity for us as a team to give back to Lipscomb Academy,” said forward Alex Banks. “There are many students that go there that come to our camps in the summer. So being able to help make their school look clean after the event was a great opportunity for us to volunteer as a team.”

The students got to enjoy a carnival-like atmosphere comprised of games, food trucks, and entertainment. The focus was strictly on the kids having fun without the fundraising.

By contributing to the event, the women’s basketball team strives to strengthen the connection between the collegiate athletes of Lipscomb University and the elementary students of Lipscomb Academy.

“My favorite part was playing with the kids and just seeing the joy on their faces as they were going down the big blow-up slide,” Banks said.

The Purple and Gold will continue its volunteering efforts on Nov. 8 when the team chips in to help at the Safe Haven’s Hike for the Homeless at Edwin Warner Park.
