Women's hoops continues conference action at USC Upstate

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s basketball team continues with Atlantic Sun Conference play as they face USC Upstate Wednesday night in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Lady Bisons (6-10, 0-1) were defeated by Northern Kentucky 81-70 in their first A-Sun matchup of the season Saturday night. They ended nonconference play on a high note with a 95-71 victory over the Trevecca Trojans.

Junior Danay Fothergill scored over 20 points in each contest with totals of 26 and 21 respectively against Trevecca and Northern Kentucky. Junior Ashley Southern led the Purple and Gold in rebounding in both outings with 13 against Northern Kentucky and nine against Trevecca.

USC Upstate (8-8, 0-1) dropped their first game of A-Sun play to Kennesaw State 72-63 on Saturday night. Senior Sharmayne Edwards led the Spartans in scoring with 15 points despite coming off the bench. Juniors Kristen Dickenson (14) and Brittany Clency (11) also scored in double figures for Upsate.

Wednesday’s game will tip-off at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 with live stats also available.

  • This is the 14th matchup in history between Lipscomb and USC Upstate. The Spartans lead the series 11-3, including two 20-plus point victories last season.
  • Southern has led Lipscomb in scoring in seven of the team’s 15 games this season and in rebounding 14 times. Her 9.3 rebounds per game average is good enough for third in the A-Sun and 68th in the nation.
  • Saturday’s game saw the Purple and Gold make 12/36 three-pointers, a season high, and 12/13 free throws for the second highest free throw percentage of the season (92.3).
