NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lady Bisons basketball team will have their last home game of the regular season Wednesday night as they take on the USC Upstate Spartans in Allen Arena.
The Lady Bisons and the Spartans have met on 15 previous occasions, with Upstate leading the series 12-3. In their first matchup this season, the Spartans defended their home court with a 71-68 win over Lipscomb.
On Saturday, the Lady Bisons lost to the Jacksonville Dolphins 75-63 at home. Lipscomb led throughout most of the second half, before the Dolphins came charging back in the final minutes.
The Purple and Gold outshot Jacksonville from the field and the line, but only managed to go 2-10 from behind the arc, which is usually an area of strength for them. Danay Fothergill led the way in the loss with 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Ashley Southern added 17 points and eight rebounds.
In their most recent outing, the Spartans lost to nationally-ranked Florida Gulf Coast 75-59 at home. Brittany Clency (16) and Brittany Starling (15) led Upstate in scoring in the defeat. Sharmayne Edwards is the Spartans leading scorer at 13.4 points per game. Starling almost averages a double-double with 12.2 points and 8.9 rebounds.
- Fothergill’s 43.0 three-point field goal percentage is good enough for second in the A-Sun and 17th in the country.
- The Lady Bisons are ranked 15th nationally in three-pointers made per game with an average of 8.2. They are ranked second behind Florida Gulf Coast’s 10.0 average in the A-Sun.
- Southern is averaging 8.3 rebounds per game, ranking her 5th in the Atlantic Sun. She led the A-Sun in rebounding in the 2013-14 season with an 11.4 mark.
- Freshman Emily Eubank leads the A-Sun in assists per game with a 4.4 mark.
The game can be seen live on ESPN3, and will begin at 6:30. Live stats will also be available.
