DELAND, Fla. – The first round of the Atlantic Sun Women’s Basketball Tournament kicks off Friday night with Lipscomb taking on the Stetson Hatters.
Number two seed Stetson (22-6, 11-3) defeated seventh-seeded Lipscomb (8-20, 3-11) in both of their regular season matchups. The Hatters also lead the overall series 17-7. In the year’s first game between the two, the Lady Bisons almost stole a victory at home, losing 82-77. In game two, Stetson was scorching from the field and took a 103-75 win at the Edmunds Center.
Lipscomb enters the game having lost to Kennesaw State in the final game of the regular season 75-57 on the road. A slow start cost the Lady Bisons, as they were outscored 34-13 in the first 16 minutes of action and were unable to recover from the bad start. Ashley Southern paced Lipscomb with 14 points and nine rebounds. Danay Fothergill added 11 and Loren Cagle scored nine.
Stetson won its final game of the regular season 77-45 at home. Myeisha Hall and Jama Sharp led the way with 22 and 21 points respectively. Four Hatters average in double-figures. Sharp leads the balanced attack (14.1) followed by Hall (13.8), Brianti Saunders (13.7) and Amber Porter (13.2).
- Hall, Porter and Sharp were just named to the A-Sun All-Conference First team, while Fothergill was named to the Second Team. Lipscomb’s Emily Eubank and Stetson’s Sarah Sagerer were named to the A-Sun All-Freshmen team
- Fothergill’s 42.6 three-point field goal percentage is good enough for second in the A-Sun and 16th in the country.
- The Lady Bisons are ranked 17th nationally in three-pointers made per game with an average of 8.0. They are ranked second behind Florida Gulf Coast’s 9.6 average in the A-Sun.
- Eubank and Sharp are the A-Sun’s top two players in assists per game. Eubank averages 4.2 per game, while Sharp dishes out 4.1.
