Women's basketball releases 2015-16 schedule

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb women’s basketball schedule for the 2015-16 season has a local flair.

After improving its win total in each of head coach Greg Brown’s three seasons with the program, the Lady Bisons look to take another step forward in the upcoming season.

“We are very excited about the schedule,” Brown said. “There is a great balance of playing styles on our slate.”

Following home exhibitions with Freed Hardeman on Oct. 29 and Young Harris College on Nov. 7, the Lady Bisons will kick off the regular season with a home match against Loyola (MD) on Nov. 13.

“We are excited to play at home in the opener against Loyola,” Brown said. “Beginning the season in Allen Arena in front of our fans will be a big boost for the team.”

Starting with a Nov. 22 game at Tennessee Tech, the Lady Bisons will take on six Ohio Valley Conference schools in a seven-game stretch.

A six-game homestead will see Murray State (Nov. 24), Battle of the Boulevard rival Belmont (Dec. 2), Morehead State (Dec. 5), SEMO (Dec. 8), Ball State (Dec. 10) and Western Kentucky (Dec. 21) visit Allen Arena with Lipscomb only leaving campus for two trips to TSU for the Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 28-29 and for an away game on Dec. 13.

“It’s good to play all of the local schools from the OVC,” Brown said. “Playing Belmont at home is always a fun game.”

The non-conference schedule comes to a close with a road trip to Alabama on Dec. 28 and Jackson State on Dec. 30.

“The Christmas break road trip to Tuscaloosa and Jackson will be a good test for the team,” Brown said.

The Atlantic Sun portion of the schedule begins with another road trip, with stops at Kennesaw State (Jan. 9), Jacksonville (Jan. 16) and North Florida (Jan. 18). The first stretch of A-Sun home games sees the Purple and Gold taking on Florida Gulf Coast (Jan. 23), Stetson (Jan. 25) and USC Upstate (Jan. 30).

“We have some quick turnarounds on the schedule, which will give us a feel for how the A-Sun Conference Tournament will be,” Brown said.

Lipscomb’s first A-Sun tilts with new conference member NJIT will take place on Feb. 4 in Newark, New Jersey and on Feb. 10 in Nashville.

Other A-Sun home matches include: North Florida (Feb. 13), Jacksonville (Feb. 15) and Kennesaw State (Feb. 27), while the final two away matchups will be against Stetson (Feb. 20) and Florida Gulf Coast (Feb. 22).
