MACON, Ga. – Lipscomb women’s basketball senior Ashley Southern has been unanimously voted to the Atlantic Sun Preseason All-Conference Team by the league’s coaches.
Southern finished second in the A-Sun in scoring in the 2014-15 season with a 14.3 mark, and placed fifth in rebounds with an 8.4 average. She also finished seventh in field goal percentage (.447), 10th in blocked shots (0.9), and 12th in free throw percentage (.744).
During the 2015-15 season, Southern notched seven double-doubles, was either one point or rebound short eight other times, and scored in double figures 23 times.
The Tuscumbia, Ala. native was one of seven players who received votes from every coach. She joined FGCU’s Whitney Knight and Kaneisha Atwater, Jacksonville’s Sherranda Reddick, Kennesaw State’s Jasmine McAllister, USC Upstate’s Brittany Starling, and Stetson’s Brianti Saunders. Of the seven, only Saunders and Reddick were juniors. The rest were seniors.
FGCU’s Stephanie Haas, and Jacksonville’s Kayla Gordon and Briona Brown round out the team.
Lipscomb finished sixth in both the Coaches Poll and Media Poll, a spot above last season’s A-Sun finish for the Lady Bisons, garnering 20 points from the coaches and 70 from the media.
FGCU swept most of the honors, with Knight taking Preseason Player of the Year, Atwater nabbing Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, and the Eagles landing first in both the Coaches Poll and Media Poll.
