MACON, Ga. – For the second time in her Lipscomb career, senior Ashley Southern has been named the Atlantic Sun Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
During the opening weekend of the season for the Lady Bisons, all of Southern’s skills were on display in a pair of matchups.
In Friday’s 57-52 opening night loss to Loyola, the Tuscumbia, Alabama native notched 15 points and a program-NCAA era best 20 rebounds for her 30th career double-double.
On Sunday, Southern helped Lipscomb to its first win of the season. In the 66-55 victory over Georgia Southern, the senior forward tallied a game-high 23 points to go along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Southern shared the award with North Florida junior Claire Ioannidis who set the UNF single game record for points with 29 in a win over UMKC.
After the high-scoring weekend, Southern now sits at 919 points for her Lipscomb career, with 1,000 within close distance.
The Purple and Gold will take the court again on the road at Wright State on Thursday and at Tennessee Tech on Sunday, with tip-off for each game coming at 6 and 2 p.m. respectively.
