Women's hoops falls late to Texas Southern

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb (3-4) women’s basketball team lost late 66-62 to Texas Southern (1-3) on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Bisons held the lead throughout most of the game before fading late in the fourth quarter.

Senior Ashley Southern compiled another double-double, tying her season high of 23 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.

Junior Alex Banks scored 16 points for the second game in a row. Banks shot an efficient 7-12 from the field, including 2-3 from behind the arc.

Texas Southern senior Kiana Vines battled with Southern in the paint all night, going for 17 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocks.

Despite holding the Lady Tigers to just 7-26 from three-point range, freshman Joyce Kennerson sank a pair of three-pointers late to give Texas Southern the win.

  • Sophomore Loren Cagle put together another high-assist performance with eight to go along with six points, four rebounds, two steals, and her first block of the season.
  • Only seven Lady Bisons entered Sunday’s game, the lowest number so far this season for Lipscomb.
  • Texas Southern out-rebounded Lipscomb 46-31 in the loss.
  • Both teams were turnover-plagued, with Texas Southern notching 19 to Lipscomb’s 16.
