NASHVILLE – For their contributions over Thanksgiving week, senior Ashley Southern and sophomore Loren Cagle each earned an Atlantic Sun Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award on Monday.
Southern earned her third A-Sun Player of the Week honor after averaging 21.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks over a three-game period.
During Lipscomb’s 93-85 victory over Murray State at home on Tuesday, the Tusucmbia, Alabama native paced the Lady Bisons with 20 points, six rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
Southern was also named to the All-Tournament team for her performance at the Teresa Phillips Thanksgiving Classic over the weekend.
In an 88-67 win over North Alabama on Saturday, she compiled 21 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocks. On Sunday, she tied her season high of 23 points and added 15 rebounds in a 66-62 loss to Texas Southern.
Cagle averaged 11.3 points, 12.0 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.7 steals during the week’s three games to be named the College Sports Madness Women’s Basketball A-Sun Player of the Week.
On Tuesday, Cagle scored a career-high 26 points and shot 5-6 from behind the arc. She also added five rebounds, two steals, and a program-best 14 assists.
On Saturday, the Nashville native once again dished out 14 assists in a Lipscomb victory to go along with two points, two rebounds, and one steal. During Sunday’s loss, she netted six points, four rebounds, eight assists, two steals, and her first block of the season.
The Lady Bisons will take the court again on Dec. 2 as they face Belmont at home in the Battle of the Boulevard at 6:30 p.m.
