Adoption Rally, Star Wars Day highlight wbb matchup with Upstate
NASHVILLE – It will be a busy afternoon for fans at the Lipscomb (3-17, 0-5) women’s basketball matchup with Atlantic Sun Conference foe USC Upstate (12-8, 3-2) as Allen Arena will be host to both Lipscomb’s Fifth Annual Adoption Rally as well as Star Wars Day.
The Spartans lead the Lady Bisons 13-3 in the all-time series, including wins in both games from last season. Upstate won 71-68 at home and 76-67 on the road in the 2015-15 campaign.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS:
- Stetson enters the matchup coming off of a 69-54 win over North Florida.
- Brittany Starling leads Stetson in scoring and rebounding at 15.8 points and 12.4 rebounds per game.
- Brittany Clency and Kristen Dickerson each average 9.9 points per contest.
- The Spartans have used the same starting lineup for 18 out of 20 games this season.
QUICK HITS:
- Lipscomb comes into the matchup having lost to Stetson at home 83-62. Junior Alex banks led the team in both points and rebounds with 20 and six, respectively.
- In the first game of the season, Lipscomb lost to Loyola (MD) 57-52 at home. In the loss, Southern set a program NCAA-era record for rebounds in a single game with 20. She also added 15 points.
- For her performance in the opening week, Southern was named the Co-Atlantic Sun Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time in her career. She was also named the A-Sun Player of the Week after the second week of action.
- Southern is ranked first in the A-Sun and 40th in the nation in points per game with a mark of 19.0. Her 9.8 rebounds per contest ranks third in the conference and 34th in the nation.
- Cagle ranks 6th in the nation and first in the A-Sun in assists with a 7.4 per game mark.
