NASHVILLE – Despite a late run, the Lipscomb women’s basketball team fell in its first exhibition match 81-64 to Freed-Hardeman on Thursday night at Allen Arena.
The Lady Bisons started out slow, being outscored by 15 in the first half before playing a back-and-fourth game throughout the second half.
"We could have had a closed scrimmage, but having an exhibition game like that helped show us what we needed to see," Lipscomb women's basketball head coach Greg Brown said.
"Freed is a good team. I think they're a top-10 NAIA team. It was not the result we wanted, but we saw some stuff that we liked. Now, we're ready to get out there for the next exhibition game and continue to grow."
Junior Loren Cagle led Lipscomb in scoring with 15 points, to go along with four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Junior Amber Fuqua was close behind with 13 points on 6-14 shooting.
Laure Assena had a strong debut in the Purple and Gold, notching 12 points and five rebounds despite accruing foul trouble early on.
The team’s lone senior, Alex Banks, nearly earned a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
