Women's hoops set to take on FGCU, Stetson over holiday weekend

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb (3-13) women’s basketball team will be continuing conference play over the holiday weekend as Florida Gulf Coast (12-6) and Stetson (11-5) are set to visit Allen Arena.  

The FGCU game will tip-off at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, while the Lady Bisons will take on Stetson at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES:

  • This is the 20th Division I matchup between the two schools, with FGCU having won all of the previous entries, including both of last season’s meetings.
  • FGCU enters the matchup having defeated Stetson 84-71.
  • The Eagles have one player averaging in double-figures so far this season: Rosemarie Julien (11.1).

SCOUTING THE HATTERS:

  • This is the 28th matchup between the two schools in the DI era, with Stetson holding a 20-7 series lead, including the most recent meeting 79-75 at home.
  • The Hatters have three players avering in double-figures so far this season: Brianti Saunders (16.6), Breana Bey (14.1), and Brittney Chambers (11.1).
  • Sarah Sagerer leads the team with 9.4 rebounds per contest.

QUICK HITS:

  • Senior Alex Banks has been the Lady Bisons’ leading scorer so far this season with 10.9 points per game. The forward notched a career-high 34 points (on 14-20 shooting) and 11 rebounds in the Lady Bisons’ 66-59 victory over Anderson in the home opener. She grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds in a 67-52 loss to Charleston Southern at home.
  • Lipscomb heads into the matchup having lost to Princeton at home 71-43. Junior Kennedy Potts lead the team with a career-high 12 points.  
  • Cagle was named to the preseason watch list for the Nancy Lieberman Award, which is handed out each season to the best point guard in the nation. She was one of 20 student-athletes to earn the recognition and one of only four players from a mid-major program on the list. She is averaging 8.4 points, 4.5 assists, and 4.2 rebounds on the season.
  • Banks and Cagle are the only players to start every game so far this year against Lipscomb.
  • 11 Lady Bisons are averaging 10 or more minutes per game on the season.
