NEWARK, N.J. – Despite a career-high 24 points from freshman Kaylee Cotton, the Lipscomb (4-17, 1-5) women’s basketball team fell on the road to NJIT (9-12, 2-5) on Saturday afternoon 76-68.
After scoring 17, 23, and 20 points in the first three quarters, respectively, an eight-point fourth quarter prevented the Lady Bisons from earning their second ASUN road win of the season.
Lipscomb had one of its best shooting games of the year, with a season-high 11 made three-pointers on 33 shots and a 26-60 shooting mark overall.
Cotton poured it in from all over the court, including a 5-12 mark from behind the arc and a 5-6 line from the charity stripe.
Senior Alex Banks notched her fourth career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with two steals and one block.
Junior Loren Cagle tied her season-high mark of 11 assists, and also earned six points, four rebounds, and a career-high three blocks.
Sophomore Morgan Turner scored nine points on a perfect 4-4 shooting.
Head Coach Greg Brown's Thoughts:
"I am proud of our effort. We're continuing to improve, but we have to sustain our energy and execution for 40 minutes.
"We have a quick turnaround over the next week-and-a-half. We need to learn from our mistakes and apply that when we play them next week.
"In the fourth quarter, we couldn't get the stops we needed and played a little tight on the offensive end.
"Kaylee had been working hard to come back from her injury. I'm glad to see her get into game rhythmn. We did a good job of finding her on time and on target."
QUICK HITS:
- Four Highlanders finished in double-figures: Alana Dudley (23), Tatianna Torres (17), Leah Horton (15), and Maria Ruban (11).
- NJIT edged out Lipscomb 39-37 in rebounds, but the Lady Bisons dished out 18 assists to the Highlanders’ eight.
- Lipscomb’s bench produced 35 points compared to NJIT’s 13.
- Six Lady Bisons scored six or more points.
UP NEXT: The Lady Bisons will be back at home in Allen Arena as they take on USC Upstate on Feb. 2 at 6:30.
