Women's hoops drop tough contest against ASUN-leading FGCU

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb women’s basketball team hung close with the ASUN’s top-ranked team Florida Gulf Coast on Monday night before falling late 68-54.

The Lady Bisons (6-14, 2-3) and the Eagles (19-3, 5-0) were tied at 48 apiece heading into the fourth quarter before FGCU out-scored Lipscomb 16-6 in the final frame.

The Purple and Gold were down by 10 midway through the third quarter before going on a 10-0 run to even the score heading into the fourth.

Senior Loren Cagle led the team with 20 points, six rebounds, and two steals.

Freshman Taylor Clark notched an efficient 14 points on 6-9 shooting in 18 minutes.

Senior Loshaveon Jones set a career-high with a team-best 12 rebounds to go along with seven points.

Sophomore Lauren Rau added five points, four rebounds, and a team-high four assists.

 

QUICK HITS:

  • Five Eagles finished in double-figures: Erica Nelson (12), Taylor Gradinjan (12), Rosemarie Julien(10), Tytionia Adderly (10), and China Dow (10).
  • The Lady Bisons swiped a 10 steals to Stetson’s five.
  • Lipscomb out-rebounded FGCU 41-36, and lost the assist battle 19-9.
  • Seven Lady Bisons played 10 or more minutes: Cagle (with a team-high 38 minutes played), Jones, Rau, Clark, Kennedy Potts, Auriana Broughton, and Emily Kmec.
  • There were seven lead changes and five ties in the contest.
