NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb women’s basketball team has announced the signing of Sydney Shelton to the 2019-20 class.
Shelton will be transferring from the Big East’s Butler, where she has spent the past two seasons.
"We are excited that Sydney is joining our program,” Lipscomb women’s basketball head coach Greg Brown said.
“Sydney brings experience to our team as an All-Conference Big East player. But most importantly, she brings the intangibles off the floor as well that represent Lipscomb and our community."
During her freshman season at Butler, Shelton was named to the Big East All-Freshman Team after averaging 8.8 points and 2.6 rebounds per contest. She was also named the Big East Freshman of the Week during the year.
Shelton hails from Greenfield, Indiana where she starred at Mt. Vernon. She notched 1,985 points as a four-year starter, earning Indiana All Star and Hoosier Basketball Magazine First-Team All-State honors.
As a senior, she averaged 23.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.3 steals, demonstrating an all-around game.
As a transfer from a fellow Division I program, Shelton must sit out the 2018-19 season per NCAA rules, but will be eligible to suit up in the Purple and Gold for the 2019-20 campaign.
Shelton is now the third Lady Bison to hail from Indiana on the current roster, joining upcoming junior Lauren Rau and upcoming redshirt-sophomore Emily Kmec.
