Women's hoops to visit Alabama A&M, host Jacksonville State

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb women’s basketball team is taking on a pair of opponents this week as the Lady Bisons visit Alabama A&M and host Jacksonville State.

On Thursday, Lipscomb will face A&M in Huntsville at 6 p.m., while Saturday’s matchup against JSU in Allen Arena will take place at 1:30 p.m.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS:

  • Alabama A&M and Lipscomb have met three times, with the Lady Bisons holding a 2-1 series lead.
  • Last season, the Lady Bisons defeated the Bulldogs 66-50 at home.
  • Current sophomore Taylor Clark led Lipscomb with 18 points on 6-8 shooting in the win.
  • A&M opened up their season with a 88-60 loss at Illinois.

 

SCOUTING THE GAMECOCKS:

  • Jacksonville State and Lipscomb have met four times, with the Lady Bisons holding a 3-1 lead. Lipscomb won 86-76 on the road during their last matchup in December 2014.
  • The Gamecocks opened the season 1-1 with a win at Florida A&M and a loss at Texas Tech.
  • JSU is one of eight Ohio Valley Conference schools the Lady Bisons face this season.
  • Rayven Pearson leads the team with 12.0 points per game.

 

HERD NOTES:

  • Lipscomb split their season-opening weekend, defeating Tennessee State 64-62 in the home opener and falling to Clemson 68-26 in the road opener.
  • Four Lady Bisons scored in double-figures in the win over TSU, including Jane Deason (a team-high 17), Kailey Rosenbaum (13), and Keely Morrow (13), who were all freshmen making their Lady Bisons debut.
  • In all, six Lady Bisons made their regular debut in the Purple and Gold in the win, including five freshmen.
  • Junior Carleigh Short notched 10 points, three assists, and two steals against TSU.
  • Junior Lauren Rau scored the game-winning bucket in the final seconds. It was her first basket of the night.
  • The Lipscomb roster features no seniors after graduating seven from the previous year’s ASUN semifinalist roster.
  • Lipscomb will face two more “Power” conference opponents after the Clemson loss: Cincinnati on Nov. 24 and Georgia on Dec. 19.
