LOUISVILLE, Ky. – With athletes competing in five of six races at Saturday’s Greater Louisville Classic, the Lipscomb men and women’s cross country teams got a chance to race in big groups against diverse competition. The results included a team victory for Lipscomb’s top men’s squad and an 11th-place marking for the Lady Bisons in the top women’s race.
Led by junior Isaiah Greer’s 10th-place finish out of 285 runners, Lipscomb’s men won the Blue race Saturday morning over Ferris State and SIU-Edwardsville. The reigning Atlantic Sun Male Runner of the Week, Greer finished the eight-kilometer race in 25:14.29s and was the seventh collegiate runner across the line.
Joining him at the top of the Lipscomb lists were juniors Geoff Musick (season-best 25:39.12s) and Ashton Fisher (career-best 25:42.14s), who finished 25th and 27th, respectively.
Junior Ben Wright, off a career-best run at last weekend’s Erik Anderson Invite, nearly equaled that mark this weekend. The Vicennes, Ind. native finished 37th with a 25:53.30s mark, just over a second off last week’s mark.
Freshman Ryan Gadsey rounded out the scoring for the Bisons at 25:55.48s, good for 43rd. Gadsey has been a top-five finisher among Bison runners in four of his five meets this season.
In other men’s race action, the men finished seventh out of 35 teams in the silver race. Freshman Tate Honaker led the men in that race, finishing 33rd with a 26:54.33s mark.
In the women’s Gold race, sophomore Tessa Hoefle paced the Lady Bisons with a 39th-place run, finishing the five-kilometer in a career-best 17:51.24s.
Senior Ashley Lehman was the next Lady Bisons runner to cross the line, finishing 50th following an 18:02.94s run.
Freshman Minna Fields shaved nearly 20 seconds off her previous personal-best, finishing 62nd following an 18:11.80s run.
Sophomore Emily Longden (95th, 18:25.73s) and freshman Maggie Lawrence (108th, 18:33.00s) finished out the top-five for Lipscomb.
Each of Lipscomb's top-five women's runners set personal-bests at Louisville.
Lipscomb’s women had athletes in both the blue and silver races as well. In the Blue race, Lipscomb finished fourth as a team; freshman Kaitlyn Llewellyn finished 19th out of 257 runners with a 18:39.95s run, while junior Priya Pappu was 25th with an 18:44.18s run.
In the silver race Lipscomb did not have enough competitors to field a team. Among the individual runners, freshman Kaleigh Bueckert finished 23rd with a 19:57.83s run.
Lipscomb will take next weekend off before heading to Fayetteville, Ark. for the prestigious Chile Pepper Festival, Oct. 15.
