After emerging victorious in the 2011 Atlantic Sun Cross Country Championships, the Lipscomb Lady Bisons are also getting some recognition in the latest United State Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll.
The Lady Bisons jumped from 10th in the last poll to sixth in Monday’s rankings, jumping ahead of A-Sun foe North Florida, as well as Alabama and South Florida.
The ranking equals the best ever for a Lipscomb team. The Lady Bisons broke into the poll for the first time last season, reaching as high as sixth in the poll prior to last season’s A-Sun Championships.
Last weekend, the Lady Bisons dusted defending champion North Florida and the rest of the field on their way to the program’s first A-Sun title. Lipscomb sophomore Tessa Hoefle and senior Ashley Lehman were named first team All-Conference, while freshmen Minna Fields (second-team, All-Freshman) and Maggie Lawrence (All-Freshman) also earned accolades.
The men’s team earned a program-best fourth-place finish at the A-Sun Championships. The men’s squad moved up to 13th in this week's poll after not being ranked in the last USTFCCCA poll.
The cross country teams will return to the course Saturday, Nov. 12 when they compete in the NCAA South Regional in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The University of Alabama will host the meet on the Harry Pritchett Cross Country Course.
