Women's XC stays first in A-Sun heading into Louisville Classic

Thursday, September 27, 2012

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-The Lipscomb Lady Bisons retained their first place ranking this week in the Atlantic Sun Conference Cross Country Poll.

The Lady Bisons, also ranked No. 7 in the South Region, will be trying to rebound this Saturday on the 5,000-K course at the 11th annual Greater Louisville Classic after a disappointing 12th place finish last weekend at the Toledo Inter-Regional Bubble Buster Friday in Toledo, Ohio.

Lipscomb coach Bill Taylor was candid in his thoughts about the Lady Bisons and their individual performances in the Toledo 4-K run.

“Toledo was an anomaly,” Taylor said. “We have growing pains. We have a really good team with a ton of talent. We are striving to be at that next level, but sometimes when you are striving to be at that next level you have a few setbacks here and there.

“I am not concerned at all about it. Our athletes know what they didn’t do right. We really ran as bad as we were capable of running at Toledo. But we have flushed it. We haven’t talked about that race since last Saturday.”

Taylor is confident that his Lady Bisons will be better this Saturday.

“We are going to race better Saturday,” Taylor said. “This is a process. Even though it was not the result we wanted in Toledo we actually learned a lot.

“Whenever something like that happens you sit back and examine yourself and say what am I doing right and what am I doing wrong. I know it makes me a better coach and makes the team a better team.”

There will be three races for the women with the first race starting at 9:15 a.m. followed by the second at 10:30 and the third race at 11:30. The course is located at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park.

The field is expected to feature five A-Sun teams, including the Lady Bisons.
