NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Two Lipscomb student-athletes have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
The all-academic teams are to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Junior Tessa Hoefle, the Atlantic Sun Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year for both cross country and outdoor track and field, was named to the team after sporting a 4.0 GPA in English.
Hoefle garnered five all-conference awards throughout the school year. She was the conference champion in the 5,000-meter run at the outdoor track and field meet. She earned first-team all-conference at the 2012 cross country championships and added a pair of all-league honors at the indoor track and field championships in the 3,000 and 5,000 meter runs.
Sophomore Maggie Lawrence earned her spot on the team with a 3.87 GPA in Biology. She is a two-time member of the A-Sun All-Academic Team. She was named to the cross country all-academic team while garnering all-conference honors in helping the Lady Bisons to the A-Sun Championship. She was also named to the squad for the indoor track and field season.
Hoefle and Lawrence are the third and fourth Lady Bisons named to the squad. Ashley Lehman earned the honor in 2012 along with Carolyn Latham, who garnered the award twice, in 2007 and 2008.
Both athletes will appear on the ballot for Academic All-America honors to be announced in June.
