DES MOINES, Iowa – Lipscomb freshman Madi Talbert finished a long and successful track season Friday afternoon with a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the U.S.A. Junior Nationals at Drake University.
Talbert crossed the finish line in a time of 10:27.80, the second-fastest time of her career. Brianna Nerud of Syracuse University was first in the field of eight runners with a time of10:15.67.
"Madi ran well,” Lipscomb track and field coach Bill Taylor said. “It was hard to know what to expect coming off a week of rest and a bit more than a week of five-to-six-mile easy runs.
"I think that caught up with her in the last 1000 meters. I also think she has some tactical awareness things she can get better at. And that is one of the main reasons she is here after a very long freshman season...to learn, to fix things, to get used to the big meet, and to get better."
Tucker Peabody is the final competitor for the Bisons in the nationals. He will be competing Saturday in the U.S.A. Senior Nationals.
Peabody will compete in the first round in the 200 meters. He is the first Lipscomb athlete ever to qualify for the U.S.A. Senior Championships and will be racing Olympians. If he qualifies through the first round, he will race on Sunday at 2:05p.m.
