DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – No stranger to taking home Atlantic Sun Conference honors having been named the A-Sun Women’s Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the Year three years running, Lipscomb senior Tessa Hoefle has been named the conference’s 2013-14 Female Student Athlete of the Year at the league’s annual meeting.

“Tessa has been a leader for our program in every aspect, athletically, socially, spiritually and academically,” said Lipscomb director of track and field Bill Taylor. “She has pursued excellence in all things, which is exactly what our program philosophy is.  She deserves all the terrific honors she has received.  In a program that has amazing success in all these areas, Tessa has stood out.  So it's not surprising that she has also risen to the top of the entire Atlantic Sun conference in this way as well."

Sporting a 4.0 grade point average in English, Hoefle has taken home a bookcase full of honors during her career as a member of the Lipscomb cross country and track and field teams.  The Winnebago, Illinois native was recently named the Scholar Athlete of the Year for the Lipscomb athletic department at the inaugural “Lippy Awards”.

“On the heels of a school year where Lipscomb has enjoyed one of its most successful seasons ever, and when the Atlantic Sun too has experienced tremendous success in the classroom and in competition, this honor is particularly meaningful for Tessa,” said Lipscomb director of athletics Philip Hutcheson.

“The Atlantic Sun has had many peak performers this season, so only someone who excelled in every way was going to have a chance to be selected.   Over the past four years, Tessa has performed at the highest of levels both academically and athletically, and I am glad that her efforts were recognized by our fellow institutions in the A-Sun. It's speaks highly of her, our coaches, our department and of our university and I'm thankful that she's been a part of our team.”

A team captain for each of the past three seasons, Hoefle helped lead the women’s cross country team to three-straight Atlantic Sun Conference championships.  She also claimed multiple all-league honors during her career including the 2013 individual A-Sun championship in the 5,000 meters.

Hoefle has also been active outside of the classroom and the field of competition tutoring younger students, serving as a mentor for freshman teammates and helping organize service projects.  She has also been active in the Lipscomb Fellowship of Christian Athletes and has joined her teammates on team missions abroad.

Becoming just the third Lady Bison to win the prestigious award, Hoefle joins Jenna Bartsokas and Whitney Kihnl in bringing home the league’s top honor.
